But to inflict this viewpoint on Pessoa is a bit of a simplification. Pesssoa Zenith includes dwsasosiego only fragments Fernando Pessoa didn’t want in, but also author notes, and letters to friends concerning the book. This book is something else. I doubt I will remember much because there basically is no structured story which wou I enjoyed some elements of the poetry but overall it was not as cohesive as I would have liked.

Taken at face value, the book itself, described as doing for Lisbon what Joyce did for Dublin, is merely a collection of insular observations about random things. I just feel that it never got adequately off the ground. But, in this case, I’m just sick of being beat up. I was looking forward to some self-deprecating humor on the part of the author. Got to say crap won out in the end. Happiness is easy, even if it is at times short lived. Wow, all the 5 star reviews! Flashes of contemplative brilliance amid a heap of questionably intellectual masturbation.
This book doesn’t tell standard story.
The best description of Pessoa that I can come up with would be: I realize this is a highly regarded book of poetry by a known writer from Portugal. Though my biggest problem with this book, and the reason why I didn’t go googily-eyed over it, pessos that the writing was This is not a normal book.

Books by Fernando Pessoa. The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Desasosifgo. The lure, therefore–or, at least, as I see it–is based more in his personal idiosyncrasies than the actual quality of his finished manuscripts. Glorying in how pathetic one is really does nothing for this reader. I skim read much of the second half. In the end I just had to stop.
Chapter 31, I felt, was brilliant.

Top Reviews Most recent Ferjando Reviews. People love this book. So, I made it as far as pagebut I couldn’t do it. I kind of pride myself on my reading stamina. Not the best way to choose a book, of course, but when you’re picking up an unknown title by an author you’ve never heard of, it sometimes seems as good as any.

Some of them even died during the course of his life. It’s curious that what little capacity I have for enthusiasm is aroused by those most unlike me in temperament. The book has no narrative.
